May 2017

Two favorite festivals among locals happen in May along the banks of beautiful Bayou St. John. Bayou Boogaloo (May 19-21) offers free admission and features 3 stages of live music over the course of 3 days, plus local artisans, food booths, and other activities. Greek Fest (May 26-28) is a celebration of Hellenic culture, with live music and traditional dance performances, plus plenty of traditional Greek food, wine, and desserts.

The New Orleans Wine and Food Experience (May 25-28) takes place during Memorial Day weekend. This culinary event is a foodie’s dream, with hands-on educational activities, seminars, and tasting events galore.

This year, Bayou Country Superfest (May 26-28) makes its way to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, offering 3 days of world-famous country music artists. The event, now in its 8th year, had previously been held in Baton Rouge at LSU’s Tiger Stadium. This year’s headline acts include Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts, Thomas Rhett, and Hank Williams Jr.

June 2017

Festival season stretches into summer as New Orleanians host celebrations of favorite Southern foods like fresh Gulf oysters and Creole tomatoes in June. The New Orleans Oyster Festival (June 3-4) and French Market Creole Tomato Festival (June 10-11) are free and open to the public, with plenty of delicious food available for purchase.

New Orleans Pride (June 9-11) is one of the fastest-growing LGBT pride celebrations in the nation. This year’s festivities include a free family day, a parade through the French Quarter, and many more events. Aiming for inclusion, the event is family-friendly and acceptable for all, including heterosexual allies.

Created for women by women, Festigals (June 22-24) offers a girlfriends’ weekend getaway experience complete with a professional Women’s Leadership Conference, a Stiletto Stroll second-line parade, and plenty of food, drinking, and shopping.

The fun continues at Louis Armstrong Park as the Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival (June 24-25) offers visitors the tastes and sounds of authentic Acadian culture at its finest, for free!

July 2017

Independence Day weekend in New Orleans kicks off strong with the return of ESSENCE Festival (June 29-July 2), plus 4th of July fireworks on the Mississippi River. This year’s ESSENCE Fest headliners include Diana Ross, Mary J. Blige, Chance the Rapper, Solange, and John Legend.

Participate in a running of the bulls, New Orleans style, as the Big Easy Rollergirls skate through the streets of the French Quarter dressed as bulls to re-create the famous Spanish festival (July 7-9). Tales of the Cocktail (July 18-23) is headquartered right here at Hotel Monteleone and brings together bartenders and spirits industry professionals from around the world for nearly a week of cocktail-themed events.

August 2017

August offers an art-lovers delight as galleries and museums open up late for White Linen Night and Dirty Linen Night, while COOLinary New Orleans Restaurant Month offers visitors an opportunity to dine out for less at restaurants all over town throughout the month.

Satchmo Summerfest (August 3-6) celebrates the life and music of New Orleans’ most famous son, Louis Armstrong, with a free music festival.
