“The Legend of the Rou-Ga-Roux” Spirited Dinner at Criollo Restaurant New Orleans
New Orleans Halloween Dinner at Criollo Restaurant
Looking for a festive feast to celebrate the spookiest holiday of the year? Being one of the premier haunted hotels in America, we had to tap into our ghostly garnishes to create a menu to justly celebrate All Hallow’s Eve at Criollo Restaurant New Orleans. That’s why we’ve created the “Legend of the Rou-Ga-Roux” Spirited Dinner, a five course menu designed around one of our favorite Louisiana folklore creatures to help you celebrate Halloween in New Orleans.
What is the Rou-Ga-Roux?
The legend of the Rou-Ga-Roux has a few different spellings (Rougarou, Rugaroo, Rugaru), and is based on another similar creature, the French Loup-garou — loup meaning wolf, and garou meaning a man who transforms into an animal. Yep, a good old-fashioned werewolf. The Rou-Ga-Roux is Louisiana’s take on the mystical creature, and in Cajun legend, is said to prowl the swamps around Acadiana and Greater New Orleans. It is most commonly described as having the the body of a human and the head of a wolf or dog – definitely not something that would be fun to run into in the depths of the Louisiana swamps.
