Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival: Read All About It

New Orleans will celebrate renowned author Tennessee Williams with its annual literary festival, March 21-25, 2018. As one of the major hosts of the festival (after all, Williams featured Hotel Monteleone as a symbol of New Orleans in his play The Rose Tattoo and often stayed at the hotel), we are honored to be a part of such a storied literary tradition.

Read on for a detailed outline of this year’s Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival.

The Speakers

This year’s speaker lineup includes plenty of New Orleanians, including award-winning actor Bryan Batt, culinary legend Leah Chase, and WWNO’s Laine Kaplan-Levenson, as well as nationally recognized names such as Donna Brazile. View a complete list of speakers here.

The Venues

Of course, our hotel is one of the main venues of the festival, but several other area businesses are opening their doors to welcome Tennessee Williams Literary Festival participants.

The Historic New Orleans Collection, a museum and research center in the French Quarter, will host master classes for writers looking to improve their craft and presence. Look for live music and theatrical performances at The Palm Court Jazz Café, Le Petit Théâtre du Vieux Carré and and the AllWays Lounge and Theater.

How to Participate

You can purchase tickets for the literary festival via their website – choose from individual activities and panels, entire master class passes, and special events. Be sure to check out the famous Stanley and Stella Shouting Contest, which is held in Jackson Square on the last day of the festival, Sunday, March 25 at 4:15 p.m.

If you can’t make it to the festival, our hotel is an appropriate place to celebrate Tennessee Williams any time of year. Whether you stay in our Tennessee Williams Literary Suite or simply enjoy a drink at The Carousel Bar, you’ll experience the spirit of this author’s legendary works throughout the Hotel Monteleone.
