New Orleans Valentine’s Day Bucket List

Hotel Monteleone embraces sentimental New Orleans romance—like nowhere else.

From wrought iron balconies dripping with ivy into secret courtyards to jazz music that floats through the air as it mingles with the scents from a tasty roux cooking nearby, New Orleans is a city that was made for romance. Need more proof? We have street cars, oak trees older than Napoleon, and bayous that glow orange-red anytime the sun sets.

When you travel to a magical and diverse city, planning the perfect Valentine’s Day weekend can be a bit overwhelming. So, to make things easier, we’ve created a Romantic A La Carte Bucket List just for you and your special someone. It’s got a mix of magic, music, food, art, history, and the perfect places to take a selfie together or solo; we celebrate love of all kinds.

PICK YOUR PASSION

Select one option per section and start falling in love. Then, repeat the process with different selections for as many days as you’re in New Orleans at the Hotel Monteleone!

Celebrate Valentine's Day with a romantic getaway at Hotel Monteleone. You'll fall in love with these 5 romantic things to do as a couple in New Orleans.

Plan your Morning

Rise and shine, lovebirds. Today’s going to be an amazing day. Read the descriptions of the options below and select your morning activity!

Like sleeping in and being pampered? Then, read Option 1!

Wake up whenever you want. The drapes at the Hotel Monteleone are heavy and perfect for keeping the morning sun out of your room. When you wake up, wrap yourself in one of our comfy robes and order in-room dining service. There’s nothing like breakfast in bed. Once you’ve finished eating, head to Spa Aria for a couples massage, facials, mani-pedis, and — if you’re feeling feisty — waxing.

Locals Tip: Do it all. This place is heavenly — from the long list of services, products, and good company.

Prefer to get moving first thing in the morning? Choose Option 2!

Get up around 7 or 8 am and take the St. Charles Avenue streetcar to Audubon Park located in the Uptown neighborhood. It’s a gorgeous ride beneath a canopy of live oaks. And because you’ll be going early in the morning, not many people will be on the streetcar, making it the perfect time to get some fantastic shots of the two of you or some great scenery shots that can be blown up and framed later as a memento of your trip.

Once you get to Audubon Park, take the 2-mile walk around the gorgeous manicured grounds and get your heart rate up and the conversation going as you people-watch. Want to play a fun game while walking around the park? Make up different stories for every person you pass. The goofier, the better. Then, walk or Uber-it to Satsumas on Maple Street. This breakfast spot is a local favorite and is perfect for coffee and brunch.

Locals Tip: The streetcar costs $1.50 one way, and they take cash and exact change or pay with the RTA app.

Want to do something nostalgic and whimsical? Choose Option 3!

Sleep in until around 9:30/10:30 am, then shower and get ready to feel like a kid again. This option is all about making memories and getting back in touch with your inner child. So, to start the day off right, take the Canal Street streetcar to Cafe Du Monde at City Park and indulge in a New Orleans-style sugar rush with pipping hot beignets coated in a mountain of powdered sugar.

After you’ve fueled up, walk to Carousel Gardens and Amusement Park. They’ve got a tilt-a-whirl, swings that make you feel like you’re flying, bumper cars, one of the oldest carousels in the United States, and other cool rides.

Locals Tip: Go early to avoid crowds.

Plan your Afternoon

Ready for more fun and romance? Let’s go. Read the descriptions of the options below and select your afternoon activity!

Competition can be healthy. Want to see what your partner is made of? Choose Option 1!

After you’re morning activity, it’s time to see what each other is made of by going to Stumpy’s Hatchet House. While you’re there, you can throw hatchets at targets, play games, and grab a bite to eat. And even if you and your partner have never thrown an axe before, they’ll show you how to do it safely.

Locals Tip: Don’t wear open-toed shoes or anything too tight. You don’t want to hinder your range of motion or your ability to chuck the axe with everything you’ve got.

Bonus Activity Ideas: Go to Harrah’s Casino for a bit of gambling, or head to Dave & Buster’s if you’re into arcade games for grownups. Don’t mind a little drive? Go to the Northshore and go mini racecar driving at Nola Motorsports Park.

Looking for the perfect place to say, “I love you”? Choose Option 2!

The Vue Orleans is a relatively new museum in New Orleans located 407 feet up in the air and can boast breathtaking 360º views of the city. The best time to go is around 3:30 to 4 PM when the sun casts a golden glow over the skyline. Other cool things about this museum are that they have different exhibits that tell you about the various cultural influences that make New Orleans so unique.

Local Tip: Save a little room after lunch because they offer tastes of some of New Orleans’ most famous dishes.

Bonus Activity Ideas: Go to the Riverwalk near the Aquarium of the Americas and stand along the waterfront together. Then head to Canal Place for fabulous shopping.

Want to get your steps in and explore the city? Choose Option 3 and go on a fun walking tour.

Hate walking up hills? Then New Orleans is the perfect place to go on a walking tour or a pedicab tour. Two of our favorite walking tours are below. Pick the one that inspires you!

A) New Orleans Food Walking Tour of the French Quarter
This tour takes about 3 hours and takes your tastebuds on a tour of the Quarter. Taste everything from beignets to brisket.

B) Explore the Garden District
Walk around the historic Garden District, where you can see opulent homes in a myriad of colors. This tour takes about 2 hours and will show you a completely different side of the city beyond the French Quarter.

C) Walk through the Marigny
First, you’ll meet up at Harry’s Corner Bar. Then, from there, you’ll follow in the footsteps of Bernard de Marigny. Mr. Marigny was a fabulously wealthy Creole and socialite with a huge sugar plantation that eventually became the city’s first suburb in the early 1800s.
