Don’t miss this year’s Tennessee Williams Festival, when the most illustrious and freshest names in the literary, cultural, and theatrical spheres descend on the French Quarter for five days of literary festivities.
Hotel Monteleone is proud to host the Tennessee Williams Festival as the festival’s official host hotel. Our hotel was designated a national literary landmark in 1999 by the American Library Association, an accolade given to only two other hotels in the U.S. Join us in celebrating the Tennessee Williams Festival and the Hotel Monteleone’s one-of-a-kind literary past.

In 2013, the Tennessee Williams Festival presents a line-up including four Pulitzer Prize winners — playwright Marsha Norman, author and judge of our Fiction Contest Michael Cunningham, Oscar-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley, and journalist and novelist Leonard Pitts. Other featured appearances at this year’s festival include Mad Men star Bryan Batt; Don Murray, who starred in Bus Stop with Marilyn Monroe and in the debut production of Tennessee Williams’ Rose Tattoo on Broadway; Emily Mann, the director of recent all-black production of A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway; and Ayana Mathis, the debut author of The Twelve Tribes of Hattie, an Oprah Book Club 2.0 selection.

Local independent bookseller Garden District Book Shop will offer Festival authors’ books for sale, along with special books about Louisiana and all things Tennessee Williams.
