Criollo Restaurant

New Orleans dining is a true blending of many cultures. The European influences, including Spanish, Italian and French, are coupled with prominent contributions of Caribbean and African heritage.  This combination has produced one of America’s greatest indigenous cuisines, Creole.

Criollo, the Spanish word for Creole, is the name chosen for our new New Orleans restaurant.  Criollo represents the amalgam of cultures reflected in our New Orleans cooking and the unique tastes that comprise Louisiana cuisine.

Featuring Louisiana and the Gulf South region’s abundant bounty of fresh, home grown products from land and sea, Criollo’s menu is ingredient-driven and seasonal. This New Orleans dining sensation offers creative dishes inspired by culinary traditions and an appreciation of today’s contemporary tastes.

Carousel Bar & Lounge

Immortalized in the writings of Ernest Hemingway and other timeless authors, the revolving Carousel Bar & Lounge is a part of New Orleans history. A long-time favorite New Orleans hot-spot, the famous Carousel Bar is the only revolving bar in New Orleans.  For decades, it has lured guests in to take a spin on the 25-seat, bright circus-clad Merry-Go-Round. It is often filled with colorful local characters telling stories about Hotel Monteleone and our celebrated city.

Installed in 1949, the 25-seat bar turns on 2,000 large steel rollers, pulled by a chain powered by a one-quarter horsepower motor. Patrons circumnavigate at one revolution every 15 minutes. The ride doesn’t end there. Some of its riders’ most creative ideas, inspirations and business deals have been shaken and stirred to fruition here, not to mention some of the best spirits.

In 2011, the Hotel Monteleone started an extensive renovation and expansion of the famous Carousel Bar & Lounge. The Carousel Bar area now has a soothing slate color on the walls adorned with antiqued mirrors as well as new furniture and wooden floors.

In 2011, the Carousel Bar & Lounge experienced an enhancement consisting of expansive windows along Royal Street.  A raised ceiling was installed to add to the ambiance of the bar. The authentic Carousel top and the hand-painted chairs around the revolving bar remain the same.  With the renovation, the Carousel bar now has more lighting underneath the Carousel top and a new pewter bar surface. The bar renovation also added a second stationary crescent-shaped bar in the area previously occupied by the Hunt Room Grill.
