Tipitina’s French Quarter

The newer Tip’s, located at 233 N. Peters, is a beautiful offspring of the original legendary club. Its setting in the historic French Quarter makes the music played there, that much more enjoyable. This live music hotspot boasts the best of French Quarter ambiance coupled with a view of the Mississippi River. Within walking distance of the Morial Convention Center and most hotels Tips is great for seated dinners, receptions, luncheons, seminars and concerts.

Tipitina’s began as a neighborhood juke joint, established in 1977, by a group of young music fans (The Fabulous Fo’teen) to provide a place for Professor Longhair to perform in his final years. The venue, named for one of Longhair’s most enigmatic recordings “Tipitina,” has survived in an ever-changing musical climate despite changing ownership and briefly closing in 1984. In the past 25 years, Tipitina’s has grown from a small, neighborhood bar into an international music icon. The venue has expanded into a two-story, 1,000 capacity music venue located at the famed corner of Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas. Tipitina’s now has resources such as a web site, recording studio, record label, and a dynamic special events department.

Within the beautiful building, Tip’s first floor has a 500 person capcity Reception Style room (equipped with a large stage state of the art sound and light system) and a spacious 500 Reception Style capacity private party room upstairs with hardwood floors and a view of the Mississippi River. In addition, Tips’ French Quarter can do an elegant-to-casual 250-person sitdown dinner in its upstairs room and a 200-person dinner of the same ilk in its downstairs room.

Numerous artists famous to both New Orleans and the world have taken the stage at Tipitina’s and continue to do so. This list includes Dr. John, the Neville Brothers, the Meters, Cowboy Mouth, the Radiators, Galactic, Better Than Ezra, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Lenny Kravitz, Bonnie Raitt, James Brown, Widespread Panic, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tim McGraw, Goo Goo Dolls, Parliament Funkadelic, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, and Medeski, and Martin & Wood.
