THE STORY BEHIND

William Faulkner Suite

Known as an icon of Southern Literature, William Faulkner wrote his first novel while living in the French Quarter and stayed at our historic hotel during visits to his former city in later years. His suite is a luxurious ode to his love of Hotel Monteleone.

Truman Capote Suite

Truman Capote was fond of telling the press that he was born inside Hotel Monteleone. In truth, he was born at Touro Hospital – but it’s our favorite piece of fiction that shows how fond the writer was of our stately hotel. The suite that bears his name is a stylish, fitting tribute to the great Southern voice.

Tennessee Williams Suite

As a young man, the famed playwright Tennessee Williams adopted New Orleans as his spiritual home and adored Hotel Monteleone throughout his life. He chose the hotel as the setting for his play, The Rose Tattoo, and was a regular guest of the Carousel Bar. His suite is an homage to the elegance and grandeur he admired in our iconic hotel.

Ernest Hemingway Suite

Among his many travels, Ernest Hemingway stayed at Hotel Monteleone and mentioned the Carousel Bar & Lounge in his short story, "The Night Before Battle". In a fitting nod to his talents and style, our Hemingway Penthouse is a lavish retreat located in the section of the hotel that once housed the Union Troops in its early days.
