Thanksgiving in New Orleans: Bayou Classic, Criollo & More

New Orleans is a city that embraces traditions, family, and the art of a great meal. Celebrating a classic New Orleans Thanksgiving is a natural fit. Whether you’re looking for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner or a more elaborate celebration, you can find it all in this historic city.

There’s so much to do during the Thanksgiving holidays in New Orleans!

New Orleans Thanksgiving Weekend Activities

If you’re looking for a little adventure this holiday, our location makes us one of the best hotels in New Orleans. Perfectly situated at the foot of Royal Street, Hotel Monteleone provides the best point of departure for all of the attractions New Orleans has to offer.

You can do some window shopping along Royal Street, take a walking tour of historic French Quarter architecture, explore beautiful Jackson Square and more!

Have a sports fan in the family? Visitors need only step outside of our doors to catch a weekend full of fun sporting events surrounding the annual matchup between the Southern Jaguars and the Grambling Tigers at this year’s 45th annual Bayou Classic. The celebration of this historic rivalry takes over the city on the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving at the Track

Hotel Monteleone has had a box in the grandstands of the New Orleans Race Course for over 100 years, making it the oldest company to have the designation. The Monteleone is also a sponsor of the Louisiana Derby Race every season.

Another Thanksgiving option is to join in on a New Orleans tradition that skips the family dining table. The Fair Grounds Race Course serves a Thanksgiving buffet in their upper-level clubhouse for guests 21 and older.

Live racing begins at 11:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving (November 22, 2018), which is opening day for the thoroughbred racing season. The races typically last until about 3 p.m. Wear your Thanksgiving finery or even a costume – people love to dress up at this fun event.

Celebration in the Oaks

This gorgeous tradition starts the day after Thanksgiving, on November 23, 2018, and closes on January 1, 2019. Head to City Park to experience a festival of lights that is sure to dazzle you and your crew.

Enjoy A Delicious New Orleans Thanksgiving Dinner

Without even stepping out of our doors, you can dine at Criollo Restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Thanksgiving at Criollo will feature signature dishes as well as a selection of traditional Thanksgiving favorites. Criollo’s official Thanksgiving menu has yet to be released, so be sure to stay tuned to their website to find out all the details.
