Summer is coming to an end, and as we say goodbye to our espadrilles and seersucker suits (unless you live in NOLA year-round, that is) we’re really looking forward to Fall. After all, when the weather cools off here, the fun kicks in hardcore. Truly, the two best times to visit New Orleans are in the Spring and Fall. Below is a rundown of the Top 5 New Orleans Fall Festivals this year. So, if you like festivals, good food like the kind you’ll get to devour at our Criollo Restaurant, and sharing stories over cocktails at the one and only Carousel Bar, then keep reading!
COOLinary at Criollo – Throughout August
The name for this fantastic restaurant comes from the Spanish word for Creole. What is Creole cuisine? Simply put, it’s a mix of Spanish, French, Caribbean, and Italian influences that, when combined, create flavors unlike anything you’ve ever tasted. Every ingredient is fresh from Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, adding to the flavor profile of every dish. And the best part is, you don’t have to travel far to get here. After all, it’s right here inside Hotel Monteleone. Convenient, no? Plus, all this month, Criollo is hosting a special event called COOLinary at Criollo all month long in August. Open for lunch and dinner, you’ll be able to feast like royalty for just $25 on a 3-course prix-fixe menu.
NOLA Bluedoo Fest – (September 17, 2022)
The NOLA Bluedoo Festival has something awesome for everyone in your krewe to do. From incredible local dishes, tasty drinks, amazing music, fun costumes, and a walk/run, you’ll be able to get down and chow down as you help raise funds for Dr. Oliver Sartor’s Prostate Cancer Research Fund at the Tulane Cancer Center. Best of all, admission is free, and it’s only 3.9 miles from the French Quarter, where we’re located, making it a super-short pedicab ride or a nice walk for those looking to soak up the scenery!
Mid City’s Beignet Fest – (September 24, 2022)
This food festival is literally one of our favorites, and not just because of the massive amounts of powdered sugar we get to devour, but also because a bunch of different New Orleans restaurants will be there too! In fact, just thinking about this festival makes us hungry. Plus, there’s incredible live music! So, if you love to get down, you’ll be able to do just that while listening to Imagination Movers, Dave Jordan and the NIA, Water Seed, Shamarr Allen, and Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
Gentilly Fest – (October 7 – October 9, 2022)
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Gentilly Fest, a community festival that’s all about giving back! Founded in 2012, this festival was created to help support local organizations like the Gentilly police department, fire department, and other organizations that support recreational opportunities for all those who call Gentilly home. With tons of local food options, live music, and a Kids Village that has pony rides, rock climbing, pottery making, video games, and garden crafts, you may need to take a serious nap after.
Octoberfest – (October 7, 8, 14, 15, and 21, 2022)
Break out your lederhosen. Just kidding. Sort of. If you love anything Bavarian or beer-related, this festival has your name (and maybe your ancestors) written all over it. Hosted at Bayou St. John in Mid-City, this $10 festival is worth every penny. Kids 11 and under are free! And they have incredible food to nosh on, like brats, sauerkraut, a variety of German cheeses, huge Bavarian-style pretzels, and German desserts. Our mouths are watering just writing this! Not only that, you’ll be able to try 20 different German beers, 9 different wines, and 20 different types of schnapps. And for those who like to dress up, there’s also a German costume contest.
The NOLA Caribbean Experience – (October 20 – 23, 2022)
From our music and food to the colors we paint our houses, the Caribbean influence is strong in New Orleans. Located at Central City BBQ in the CBD, this festival will not only make your mouth water, it’ll make you want to get up and dance. Tickets are between $10 – $15, and we’ve gotta tell you it’s a lot of fun. So, if you love Caribbean food like jerk chicken and plantains as well as music, this experience will be right up your alley. Seriously, whichever festival you choose, we promise you’re going to have a good time. So, call your krewe, tell them to pack layers and book a room at Hotel Monteleone. Oh, and don’t forget to hit up the Carousel Bar, our heated pool, and to book a little me-time at our spa. Having trouble deciding what to do and which festivals to hit up, just ask our friendly staff and they’ll give you all the insider info.
