Enjoyable Indoor Activities for Beating the August Heat
Weekends are made for adventures and escaping the monotony of the day-to-day. And in our minds, the best way to do that is to come here – to New Orleans and the Hotel Monteleone. After all, when you’re here, you can return to your favorite spot in the French Quarter, or step out a bit further to capture new memories that are beyond cool – literally and figuratively.
Spend Your Morning at Longue Vue House and Gardens
Wake up early, order a little room service from our in-room dining menu, and then make your way to Longue Vue House & Gardens. Built in 1921 for newlyweds, Edith and Edgar Stern, this home is one of the last Country Era Place homes in the deep south. Its elegant interior boasts incredible American and British antiques as well as needlework, intricate fabrics and wall coverings, French and Oriental carpets, an antique creamware pottery collection and a unique collection of Op-Art and Kinetic Art pieces.
Grab a Taste of New Orleans at Vue Orleans
Located at the Four Seasons in New Orleans, Vue Orleans boasts a 360º view of the city with interactive exhibits that let you experience the diverse cultures that make New Orleans what it is. Some are more delicious than others – seriously! So come hungry.
Take a Trip Down Memory Lane at Basin St. Station
The Basin St. Station was once a transportation crossroads where 5 railway stations, and the buildings that make up the station, brought people from all over the country to New Orleans in the early 20th century. Today, this epic station is a 4-story welcome center featuring community exhibits, a performance venue, a walking tour kiosk, and a rooftop terrace. Not to mention, those awesome double-decker tour buses start here! Plus, Armstrong Park is right next door. So, if you’re into trains or have a friend (or family member) that is, head to Basin St. Station for some indoor fun.
Every Hour is Happy at The Sazerac House
Crafted in New Orleans in the 1850’s, the Sazerac is now served all over the world. At the Sazerac House, a 3-story museum dedicated to our favorite cocktail, you’ll learn about the history that inspired this tasty beverage, and how they handcrafted the world-famous Peychaud’s Bitters to create this incredible drink. There’s also a few tasting rooms if you’re feeling interested in demos or pairings. Pro-tip: take the streetcar to get there and don’t forget to pick up a few souvenirs for friends, family, and of course yourself.
Escape the Evening Heat at Escape My Room
Before you head to dinner at the Criollo Restaurant or that show later in the night, book one of the rooms at Escape My Room. With 4 rooms decked out in New Orleans history and mystery, you’ll have to figure out the clues in your room to get out. Don’t worry, if you can’t figure it out they’ll let you out of the room – we think. Up to 8 people can play. Play with more people and the price gets cheaper per ticket! Must be 12 years old or older to play.Â
