City Park is the go-to spot for meandering through the sculpture garden or enjoying Morning Call beignets al fresco, but next weekend, it’s also your best bet for decadent seafood creations. You won’t find any plain, grilled fish at the Louisiana Seafood Festival, at the festival grounds from Sep. 2-4, 2016. Instead, expect incredibly decadent takes on seafood that are anything but basic.
The Food
We love how the Festival makes it easy to try some of the city’s most beloved restaurants all in one spot. Blue Crab will feature classic crab cakes, dressed in their signature remoulade sauce, while perennial favorite Galatoire’s is offering up a crunchy, fried shrimp BLT po’boy. Crawfish ravioli and crab cakes are the picks from Andrea’s Restaurant, and Ernst Café will serve crawfish nachos.
In a distinctly Louisiana vibe, alligator and beignets are both on the menu: try the rich and savory alligator sausage cheesecake from Jacques-Imo’s, followed by flaky redfish beignets from Royal House.
Got a sweet tooth? No seafood in the desserts, we promise, but dishes like Bananas Foster bread pudding and strawberry puff pastries with whipped cream are a sweet finish to the seafood offerings.
The Music
Running from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the festival also includes a constant flow of music. With bands taking the stage practically around the clock, guests can look forward to musicians like ultra funky Tank and the Bangas, as well as local favorites, Bonerama.
Getting There
Of course, our central proximity offers easy access to any of the city’s events. If you’re looking for a scenic trip to City Park, consider taking the Canal Street streetcar. Choose a car marked “City Park,” and you’re on your way. Ubers, Lyfts, and taxis will be ready for the crowds.
If you plan to drive, the park offers free, off-street parking. However, you may want to get there early, as spots tend to fill up.
Where To Stay
Book a room at Hotel Monteleone if you’re looking for a place to stay during the festival or any other time during the year. Our hotel restaurant, Criollo, has an amazing selection of fresh seafood options for seafood lovers of all types.
