San Francisco Plantation WeddingThe San Francisco Plantation is a historic gem located on the Great Mississippi River Road. Dating all the way back to 1856, the plantation is a national landmark and the only authentically restored plantation in Louisiana. The unusual name “San Francisco” is believed to be derived from a previous owner’s comment about the extraordinary debt he was confronted with when taking over the estate. He declared he was sans fruscins or “without a penny in my pocket.” The name evolved into St. Frusquin and, in 1879, was changed into “San Francisco” by the next owner, Achille D. Bougère.

Closed only a handful of holidays per year, no matter when you’re in town the San Francisco Plantation will be ready for you to visit. Period-dressed historic interpreters lead tours daily that begin every 20 minutes. After experiencing one of the awe-inspiring 45 minute tours, you will have visited all 14 rooms of the plantation, witnessed five magnificent hand painted ceilings and classic wood working known as false marbling, and traipsed through the gorgeous grounds.

On Saturday and Sunday, March 6-7 of this year, San Francsico Plantation will hold the 7th Annual Frisco Festival. Fun for people of all ages and interests, events include over 100 arts and crafts exhibits, music by Geno Delafose & French Rockin Boogie Band, a kids activity area, Creole and Cajun Food, a chef’s choice cook-off and open car show. If being active outdoors is more to your liking then feel free to participate in the 1 mile Fun Run, 5 K race, or the 25 mile bike tour.
