4 Refreshing Summer Cocktails from our Iconic French Quarter Hotel

From Jackson Square to the Mississippi River to artisan markets and charming cafes, New Orleans’ Vieux Carre is known for its live music and classic cocktails.

And as a proud, famous New Orleans hotel, we are well-known for many things at the Hotel Monteleone – rich history, breathtaking views, and friendly staff, to name a few.

However, one of our most prized luxuries is The Carousel Bar & Lounge. The classic New Orleans hotel bar is the city’s only revolving bar that overlooks Royal Street in the heart of the French Quarter. While the Carousel Bar & Lounge is famous for its unique set-up, it is also well-known for its impressive bartenders and unparalleled cocktails.

If you’re looking for a way to relax out of the New Orleans heat, you’ll want to check out some of our favorite New Orleans Summer cocktails from the Carousel Bar, perfect for enjoying in the summertime!

Pimm’s Cup

The Pimm’s Cup is a favorite in New Orleans, but the Carousel Bar’s version gives the classic drink a little extra edge with the addition of seasonal fresh fruit. Adding strawberries, cucumbers, limes, pineapples, or blueberries provide a pop of color and flavor. This drink is a sunny day must-have!

Criollo Cocktail

Spiced rum, citrus, and mint make the Criollo Cocktail a refreshing crowd-pleaser! The Criollo Cocktail is named after our renowned Cajun & Creole-inspired eatery located inside the Hotel Monteleone, the Criollo Restaurant. This recipe has been adapted from the Bar Florida Cocktail book from the Florida Hotel in Havana, Cuba. It’s delicious!

Sazerac

If you’re more of an old-fashioned type, you may be tempted to a Sazerac. A Sazerac is a legend, and what many consider the world’s first cocktail. The Sazerac is a local variation of a cognac or whiskey cocktail originating from New Orleans in 1838. While you can get a version of this drink at the Sazerac Bar and Jewel of the South, the Carousel Bar’s Sazerac cocktail is noted as one of the best in the city. You simply cannot visit New Orleans without trying this amazing cocktail!

French 75

Finally, you can’t go wrong with a New Orleans staple–the French 75. And don’t judge a drink by its glass. While this beautiful cocktail is made from gin or cognac, champagne, lemon juice, and sugar, it’s stronger than it may appear. French 75 cocktails got their name as they were said to pack a punch that felt like you were being shelled by the powerful French 75mm field guns used during World War I.
