Voodoo Fest 2016

Start prepping your costumes, because Halloween weekend is just around the corner, and with it comes the return of a favorite fall music festival: Voodoo Music + Arts Experience!

New Orleans is quickly becoming the best place in America to celebrate Halloween, with the Voodoo experience being a big reason for that (parades like Krewe of Boo, a full calendar of LGBT Halloween events, and the city’s affinity for a good costume are other reasons).

The celebration begins on Oct. 27, 2017, and ends on the night of Oct. 29, 2017. The event takes place in City Park, with stages of varying sizes strategically placed throughout the festival grounds.

This year, the Voodoo Experience will once again present a large-scale exhibition composed of a series of interactive, site-specific installations scattered throughout City Park.

The purpose of the exhibition is to provide another layer in a comprehensive, multi-sensory “experience” that elicits both physical and emotional responses from festival-goers. The vibrant pieces celebrate experimentation with technology and electronic media, along with the non-conventional use of sustainable materials.

There’s also a marketplace featuring wares (think jewelry, custom hats, artwork) and services (like henna tattoos) from a variety of artisans. Local food options from some of New Orleans’ best restaurants will also be on-site.

Every vendor at Voodoo accepts credit cards, so there’s no need to worry about how much cash you should bring.

Every night when the gates close, the Halloween celebration in New Orleans is nowhere near over. The festivities move into the streets of New Orleans, where places like Frenchmen Street, the French Quarter, Uptown, and the Warehouse District will continue the celebration.

Most of the local Voodoo performers will be found in local bars and clubs like Tipitina’s, the Howlin’ Wolf, One Eyed Jacks, D.B.A., Republic, House of Blues, and many others. The Experience extends far beyond the gates of City Park.
