The “Write” Hotel for the Words & Music Festival

The Hotel Monteleone is one of only three U.S. hotels to receive a Literary Landmark designation by United for Library’s Friends of Libraries society. The designation celebrates significant historic literary sites, including the homes of famous writers, notable libraries and museum collections, and yes, even a certain pet raven made the cut.

Tennessee Williams. Eudora Welty. Truman Capote. Ernest Hemingway. William Faulkner. They’ve all either called the Monteleone their home or featured the Monteleone in their work. Capote claimed he was born here, Williams featured us in his play, “The Rose Tattoo,” and both Hemingway and Faulkner stayed here. Just as we inspired them, they have inspired us.

Our hotel boasts five Literary Suites in honor of the hotel’s most influential literary guests, and on December 6, we’ll welcome literary fans from around the world for the Faulkner Society’s annual Words & Music Literary Feast.

The William Faulkner Suite features marble and granite bathrooms and other luxury amenities.

The Faulkner Society

The Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society was created in 1990 with “a mission of providing realistic assistance to developing writers, creating literacy initiatives, continuing education for adults in literature, and presenting library programming for readers.” Since its founding, the Faulkner Society has contributed to a multitude of community projects throughout the Greater New Orleans Area. Its programming year begins annually on Faulkner’s birthday, September 25. One of its most important endeavors is The Double Dealer literary journal, an annual collection of high school and college intern works, which is released in conjunction with the Words & Music festival.

Words & Music: A Literary Feast in New Orleans

Now in its 20th year, the Words & Music Literary Feast is a 5-day multi-arts celebration of modern literary and creative writing achievements hosted annually inside the Monteleone. Literary fans, aspiring writers, industry professionals, and notable scholars gather together for in-depth discussions, writing workshops, and jazz performances with the goal of battling teen illiteracy, building up new writers and boosting New Orleans’ image as an intellectual destination.

Pay a visit to Faulkner House Books in-between your workshop sessions.

Don’t miss the opportunity to inspire and be inspired by the Words & Music Literary Feast this December. The festival begins on Wednesday, December 6 and ends on Sunday, December 10. See their full schedule and register for this great event here.
