A Spirited Social Calendar for Halloween 2016

Halloween is hallowed ground in New Orleans. This year, the holiday falls on a Monday, but that doesn’t mean the weekend won’t be filled with festivities. Still haven’t planned your Halloween happenings? Take a look at a few of the many ways to celebrate Halloween 2016 in New Orleans.

Krewe of Boo

This annual Krewe of Boo parade happens on Saturday, October 22, on the weekend before Halloween this year… but you can expect the same terrifying terrific floats, and throws like miniature pralines that are definitely more “treat” than “trick.” The parade rolls through the French Quarter, Warehouse District, and downtown areas.

Voodoo Experience

Halloween on a high note: the non-stop music at Voodoo Experience, running Friday through Sunday, brings in national and international acts alongside local artists. Audiences can browse installation art that studs the venue or visit the on-site arts market. “Foodoo” is on hand, too, for hungry revelers: fill up with food from restaurants like Bratz Y’All and Woody’s Fish Tacos.

Frenchmen Street

Frenchmen Street transforms into a veritable costume parade come Halloween. Arrive dressed in your costume, or simply admire the get-ups of other revelers on this bar-studded street in Faubourg Marigny. Live music – a constant feature – lends another layer of festivity to the holiday.

Halloween Parade

Molly’s at the Market in the French Quarter will host its 20th annual Halloween Parade down Decatur at 7 p.m. on Halloween night, Monday, Oct. 31. A “killer” costume party at the Erin Rose Bar follows, so be sure to dress accordingly.

Movie Night

Looking for a more low-key way to celebrate? Head to the Prytania Theater in Uptown for a 12:15 a.m. showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Friday and Saturday nights. The cult-classic musical will include plenty of audience participation, so be prepared to time-warp well into the night.

Vampire Ball

Put on your best undead finery for the Endless Night Vampire Ball. The themed soiree will take place at House of Blues on Saturday, Oct. 29. Costumes are not so much encouraged as required – browse their suggested motifs to ensure the Gatekeeper doesn’t kick you out (seriously!).

Night Cap

Whether you prefer a Sazerac or a simple gin and tonic, the Carousel Bar & Lounge at our hotel is the perfect final touch to your Halloween evening. The bar is home to plenty of history and an extensive cocktail menu, and the main hotel can provide a haunted experience all its own.
