June 2017 Festivals in New Orleans
The New Orleans Oyster Festival will celebrate the beloved bivalves (June 3-4) at Woldenberg Park at the Mississippi Riverfront, near the Aquarium. Get your fill of oyster-themed dishes, watch local shuckers compete for who can unveil oysters the fastest, or check out live music from local bands like Flow Tribe, Bonerama, Brass-A-Holics, and Bag of Donuts at this free outdoor festival.
Bite into mouth-watering local Creole tomatoes at the 31st annual French Market Creole Tomato Festival (June 10-11), just blocks away from our hotel. There will be plenty of food vendors, joined by 4 stages of free live music, cooking demonstrations, and activities for children.
New Orleans Pride (June 9-11) celebrates the history and future prosperity of the LGBT community with a weekend full of events, including a free family day, a parade through the French Quarter, and Pridefest featuring local male and female impersonators and local bands. Now in its third year, the Snake Oil Festival (June 15-17) showcases a variety of performing arts, including sideshow acts, burlesque dancers, live music, circus arts, and comedy, with three days of shows, workshops, and parties.
Festigals (June 22-24) serves up a weekend’s worth of quality time with your favorite girlfriends. The festive event includes a professional Women’s Leadership Conference, a Stiletto Stroll second line parade, and plenty of food, drinking, and shopping.
The 11th annual Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival (June 24-25) presents some of Louisiana’s most beloved Cajun and zydeco performers, including the legendary D.L. Menard with the Jambalaya Cajun Band and Grammy winner Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band, plus many more at this free event. The festival also features food vendors, kids’ activities, and an arts market with locally made goods.
It wouldn’t be summer in New Orleans without ESSENCE Fest (June 29-July 2). Headliners Diana Ross, John Legend, Mary J Blige, Chance The Rapper, Chaka Khan, Solange, Jill Scott, Master P, and many more keep the party going at night, while daytime offerings include complimentary style consultations and mini-makeovers at the Beauty & Style Expo and workshops and networking opportunities at the Path to Power: Entrepreneurship and Business Conference.
Notable Live Shows in June 2017
The historic Saenger Theater is a favorite venue among locals and tourists alike. The popular Broadway musical Mamma Mia! comes to the stage June 6-11 as part of its farewell tour. On Tuesday, June 13, Emmy award-winning dancer and choreographer Travis Wall and his dance company SHAPING SOUND bring After the Curtain to the stage, and on Tuesday, June 27, classic rockers Boston bring their high-energy stage show to the Saenger. View a full calendar of upcoming Saenger Theatre events and purchase tickets.
The 90s are back at the popular outdoor venue Champions Square as they host Third Eye Blind on Tuesday, June 13, along with special guest Silversun Pickups. The venue will also host Grammy Award-winning rock band MUSE with special guests Thirty Seconds to Mars and PVRIS on Thursday, June 8.
The Smoothie King Center will feature 80s favorite Journey with special guest Asia on June 9, superstar wrestlers at WWE Smackdown Live on June 13, and the family-friendly Marvel Universe Live! Age of Heroes, June 23-25.
